REGUA BIRDWATCHING
Stay at REGUA and enjoy the full experience in the heart of the Atlantic Forest!
Wake up to birdsong and enjoy your meals beside a vibrant feeder, alive with colour and movement. Our full board lodge offers 10 comfortable rooms and a spacious and welcoming dining area, providing an immersive experience in nature.
Just a few steps away, you’ll find several observation towers — including one directly opposite the lodge — and two more along the self-guided trails in the REGUA wetlands. Once open pasture, this restored landscape is now home to around 220 species and features about 7 km of well-marked walking trails.
Our visitor centre, located 400m from the lodge, includes the administration offices, dining-room, auditorium and laboratory. You are welcome to visit us at any time and, if you wish to meet the team, you are welcome to join us for lunch and experience the atmosphere of our daily work. You may enjoy a walk through the Atlantic Forest garden and visit our native plant nursery.
You can also explore more distant areas of REGUA on our 4x4 transport service, to access other trails, watching additional bird species and experiencing the surrounding rural landscape. This offers an ideal opportunity for anyone seeking days of immersion in nature and authentic birdwatching experiences in southeast Brazil.
Recognised for its rich biodiversity, REGUA has recorded 490 bird species — including 62 endemic species to Brazil, 118 endemic species to the Atlantic Forest, 12 globally threatened and 29 near-threatened species, according to the IUCN Red List.
In the lodge garden, you’ll also find a dedicated moth wall, equipped with a special light to attract moths and other fascinating insects such as praying mantises.
And don’t forget: at 6.30 pm we serve a complimentary caipirinha!
